Admission to Ph.D Programme in French
Applications are invited for admission to the Ph.D. programme in French, Department of French, University of Calcutta, College Street, Kolkata-71. Candidates should apply in the prescribed proforma by paying Rs.100/= through a challan in cash only obtainable from College Street Campus (cash counter).
The eligible candidates will have to appear in a written examination of two hours duration to be held in this Department on 28/05/14 (Wednesday) from 12:00 to 2: 00 p.m. for the written examination, and from 2: 30 p.m. onwards for viva-voce.
The list of successful candidates will be displayed on the Notice Board of the Department on 03/06/14. Last date for submission of application form is 17th April, 2014. The final selection for joining this programme will be on the basis of the entrance exam and interview. The allocation of supervisors will be on the basis of the interview. Those candidates who have already passed U.G.C / CSIR (JRF) Examinations / NET / SET / SLET / Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examinations need not appear for the written examination and can directly apply for the interview using the same application form.
The Entrance Test will be based on the syllabus prescribed for the Masters Programme of the Department of French, University of Calcutta.
No. of seats : 5 (Five) Reservation Policy will be followed as per rules.

1. | Short notes on Literature/ Translation/ Linguistics/ FLE/ Francophone Lit., (six topics to be chosen from twelve). | 30 |
2. | Essay on Literature/ Linguistics/ FLE/ Translation theory (1 topic to be chosen from a choice of 4 questions) | 25 |
3. | Translation of a passage of approx. 100 words (French-English or English-French). | 20 |
4. | Essay on a current affair based topic (Indo-French relations/ political, economic or social relevance) | 25 |
Viva-Voce: presentation of the topic of research, tentative synopsis (4000-5000 words) | 100 |
